Testnet

Wen Unichain Mainnet?

Published December 20, 2024

Since Unichain Sepolia testnet went live in October, there have been 50 million test transactions and over 4 million test contracts deployed on the network. Today, we’re sharing the path to Unichain’s public mainnet. The rollout is happening in planned phases, prioritizing user safety, stability, and decentralization. As part of this roadmap, we’re excited to announce that Unichain will support Permissionless Fault Proofs from day one of mainnet.

Path to Mainnet

Phased approach to Unichain Mainnet

1. Sepolia Testnet → Infrastructure Provider Access

Now Live

The first step on the road to mainnet is already underway: Sepolia testnet is public, and infrastructure providers are actively testing on mainnet. During this phase, the priority is ensuring the chain’s stability and user safety through rigorous testing and monitoring.

Unichain Sepolia has already handled millions of test transactions from our active community of developers and synthetic load tests. We’re proud to report that the network has maintained >99% uptime across all critical services. During this time, the team has also been meticulously reviewing the OP infrastructure behind the sequencer to prepare for edge cases to further bolster user safety.

2. Public Mainnet

Early 2025

The next major milestone focuses on decentralization, which is core to Unichain. Mainnet will go live with Permissionless Fault Proofs on day one, allowing anyone to verify the chain’s activity. This process will begin on January 6, 2025, when Unichain Sepolia will undergo planned maintenance to enable Permissionless Fault Proofs.

Once the new system’s safety and stability are validated, mainnet will be open for everyone! Users will be able to bridge funds directly to the network, and applications supporting Unichain will go live.

Rollup-Boost will go live on mainnet shortly after launch, leveraging Flashbots’ TEE-based block builder to enable revert protection and verifiable priority ordering for transactions.

3. Experimental Testnet (Flashblocks and Unichain Validation Network)

2025

After mainnet, we’ll keep pushing decentralization and performance through new features. These will go live first on experimental testnet for stability and performance testing, then move to Sepolia for broader testing, and finally to mainnet for production use.

The first feature on public experimental testnet will be Flashblocks, which will bring effective block times down to 250 milliseconds, making transactions feel instant. The Unichain Validation Network will also launch on experimental testnet, and the community will be invited to run test validation nodes. You can learn more about Flashblocks and the Unichain Validation Network in the Unichain whitepaper.
